Baby deer in Thekkady

A baby deer in Thekkady

“It is nice to see humans

Going through the boat

They are creatures living on the land

Some are nice and some are bad

They can walk and jump on two legs

They eat with hands and they wear dresses”.

Mum told the baby deer.

“Oh mum, take me with you

You are so nice…..”

“No baby, you can’t run faster-

Wait until you grow bigger.”

“Only this day take me please……”

When the baby deer started her crying

Mother took her to the lake side.

“How beautiful, oh wonderful!

But mum…. what is that sound?”

“Look at the boat and human beings”

“Oh... they are smiling, they are waving

Children and mothers:, men of different kinds.”

The young one danced and wished them’ goodbye’

They too danced and pushed to one side

At a sudden they heard a loud sound

The boat twisted and gone upside down

Loud cries, shouts, weeps and laments echoed.

Baby deer thought it as a fun and joke.

Tears rolled down to her cute little body

“Oh mother is weeping, her face feels sad.”

“Come baby. Go back. What can we do?”

Looking at the boat she sighed.

“All sunk? Kid asked in a perplexed tone”

“Yes, .my pet. Some may escape…”

A cool wind spread in the lake and shore,

I t had the smell of death and fear.

The fawn ran fast with the doe

With a silence: to the dark dense woods.
